~ Spygames
Studio Kunze Spyscape is a museum and entertainment space in New York.
“SPYGAMES is the fun new social experience for 2-5 players where you’ll jump, climb, throw and dodge in challenges developed with CIA experts to stretch your physical and mental agility.”
Spygames needed a unique yet identifiable look to guide the visitors around the space and provide information about each area.
When I came onto the project a few assets had already been produced, including the figures, Spygames identity and custom type. My input was to apply the assets for advertising and wayfinding purposes. The goal was to inform visitors of the different playable zones and to pair this with practical wayfinding.
For the zone-specific posters, I utilised the illustrations to enhance the interactive aspect of this area. Pairing these illustrations with playful type that reflects the words and therefore the tasks, almost like onomatopoeia. I balanced the space created by the illustrations with the black buttons that represent the games inside. The map saw several iterations that explored the use of tone, use of information and design choices like the need for doors. I wanted it to be as simple as possible with the priority being navigation and unifying the identity.
This was a great sprint of work under the Spyscape and Spygames brand, a practical exercise in brand guidelines and the application of assets. It was hugely collaborative across the Spyscape team, freelancers and us at Studio Kunze. It was also a great experience to work on a larger scale with set spaces to utilise and the exploration of how to best use the available locations.
