~ Wallpapered in Music

Freelance

This book explores the question posed by Tom Stanley “To what extent does music in prestige drama affect (or contribute) the way in which audiences respond to media texts (2010-2020)?”. Tom approached me to create a physical visualisation to showcase his writing to both friends and family as well as peers within his industry.

We worked collaboratively to bring his ideas to life while drawing together music and prestige drama TV shows.

In terms of the book cover, we developed a design that combines the written music of the two shows Tom focuses on (HBO’s Game of Thrones and Chernobyl) in a wrap-around band that encompasses the book. We chose to use jewel tones to reflect the prestige that Tom speaks of and landed on this bright amber that then continues throughout the book.

Internally, the layout reflects the use of type within TV and film; referring to rolling credits, titles, subtitles, etc. This pairs with the want to make this piece of critical writing more digestible and the addition of more imagery.
