Tanya Ling
With Studio KunzeWorking with artist Tanya Ling and Studio Kunze, Col de Montagne was a project rooted in translating an existing artistic language into a considered format.
The aim was to tell the story of Tanya's journey to New York to create and exhibit her work. The challenge was creating a sense of time passing and order within the photographs, without taking focus away from the artwork itself.
The process was highly collaborative, working closely within Studio Kunze to balance the fluidity of Tanya's creative process with the structure and constraints of a book. It required a careful approach, editing and sequencing the work in a way that felt intentional but not overworked.
The outcome was a book made up of full-bleed imagery, moving between black and white and colour. To show this sense of elapsed time, each page includes a marked calendar square in place of page numbers, indicating the day each photograph was taken.
